- Device information: device identifier, operating system, and browser type.
- Event participation: events you join, interests, and registrations.
- Connections: people you connect with and meeting context notes.
- Messages: content of messages exchanged with your connections.
- Activity data: IP address and user agent (retained for 90 days for security purposes).
- Bump data: device motion sensor data (accelerometer) used for the bump-to-connect feature (retained for 90 days).
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and operate the MetAt service, including event discovery and networking.
- To match you with other users during bump events.
- To send push notifications about connections, messages, and events (with your consent).
- To maintain security and prevent abuse (activity logging).
- To improve our service based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns.
3. Legal Basis (GDPR)
We process your data based on:
- Consent: You explicitly accept this privacy policy when using the app.
- Contract: Processing necessary to provide the MetAt service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interest: Security logging and abuse prevention.
4. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained as long as your account is active.
- Activity logs: Automatically purged after 90 days.
- Bump event data: Automatically purged after 90 days.
- Messages: Retained as long as the connection exists.
5. Your Rights

- Access: Export all your data from the app (Profile → Export My Data).
- Rectification: Edit your profile information at any time.
- Erasure: Delete your account and all associated data (Profile → Delete Account).
- Data portability: Download your data in JSON format.
- Withdraw consent: You can delete your account at any time.

We do not sell your personal data. Your data is shared only:
- With other MetAt users you connect with (profile information and messages).
- With event organizers for events you join (attendance information).
- As required by law or to protect our legal rights.

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and JWT-based authentication with 24-hour token expiry.
